"IN THE WOODS"

Her perfect pink cottage was
Her haven of hope and light
Hidden deep in the woods because
Alone there in peace, all was right

The world lying outside this wood
For her held so little appeal
Being filled with deceit and falsehood
This petite palace here was ideal

Here she determined to stay
Using the time to meditate, pray
Searching out the truest way
To find truth, throwing darkness away

Monday 8/30/10 - "I CHOOSE"

"I CHOOSE"

I have learned some things in the 25 years I have worked the Alcoholics Anonymous program and the almost 6 years I have worked the Al-Anon program. One of the most important is that I have choices. When I was in the grip of my alcoholism I had very few choices and absolutely none respecting alcohol, then I got sober. I have learned that I have a smorgasbord of choices.

SO.......
TODAY I CHOOSE:

to not drink
joy

happiness
to love myself
to take care of myself
to stand tall
hope
faith
trust
peace
serenity
to lovingly set and maintain boundaries
to accept myself as I am
to continue to work on becoming the person God intended me to be
to work on my spiritual connection to God
emotional balance
love
sanity
courage
beauty

I choose to stay out from behind the self-imposed curtain I used to insulate myself behind for so many years

I choose to live life fully center-stage

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"THE ROCK GARDEN"

Playing alone in the rock garden she placed dandelions into a small bowl followed by hydrangea petals, grass, moss and water.

Using a small rock she began to mash this pretend mixture into a magic healing medicine.
She was 4.

The seeds of her healing gift that would emerge 56 years later were being nourished.

Thursday 8/26/10 - "EQUALLY YOKED?"

THEME THURSDAY FICTION

(Equal Sign)

"EQUALLY YOKED?"

Once there was a woman.
God had blessed her in many ways.
She had found herself in the hopeless grip of alcoholism from which she escaped only by a miracle of God.
The power of this miracle came to her through Alcoholics Anonymous and the action of the 12 steps.

Then came the disaster of divorce.
After the pain of the loss of dreams she decided to be content learning how to live in harmony with herself and the world around her.

Then this woman received a blessing.
Another miracle happened when God brought an unexpected "soul mate" into her life.

She had never dreamed such happiness was possible for her in this lifetime.
They were 'near perfect' together.
(She had learned nothing other than God is perfect.)

They were equally yoked.

Love flourished, their spiritual bond grew and she was so grateful to God for the "helpmate" she had been sent.

BUT then disaster struck this woman again in the form of forces, obsessions beyond her power to change.

He changed. Love changed. She was abandoned, discarded and dropped from his life.

At first she wondered what she had done wrong? What inherent flaws did she possess that had caused this to happen?

However, she was different now. She had changed.
She knew she was not perfect, but she knew also that s
he had not caused this. She could not cure it. She could not control what was happening.

Her spiritual program of action kept her steady as she turned to her only true source of power and support in desperate times - her God.

She and her husband were no longer equally yoked.

The powerful forces crumbled their love till it blew away like dust in the wind.

She cried out in pain.
She cried out in anger.
She cried out for help.

God answered.

God whispered, "I love you and I will never leave you."

(Magpie Tales are hosted by Willow. Click to read more.)

"GOING OUT"

She would go out in luxury. One last exquisite soak.

The pills and wine were close at hand.

She would turn the water on again and then her toe would make its home in the spigot.

(She whispered, "God, please help me stop." )

Monday 8/23/10 - "DOES HOPE FLOAT?"

"DOES HOPE FLOAT?"

Today I tried to do my small part to help float hope for others. I attended my morning home group Al-Anon meeting and listened intently. It was a wonderful meeting where the topic was powerlessness and the first three steps. I received much and I shared in the hope that it might help someone else.

I had long conversations with four of my sponsees. By four o'clock I was exhausted and laid down for a short rest. This evening two other women and I braved rain that had been falling most of the afternoon and evening to take a meeting into a local treatment center. We were informed of an incorrect start time and ended up arriving half an hour late. However they got the patients together quickly and we had an old fashioned Alcoholics Anonymous speaker meeting - a somewhat shorter, but in my opinion, very powerful meeting. I hope "hope" was brought into that place.

I'm home again safe and sound and dry. It has been a very long day. It has been a fulfilling day. Tomorrow morning it is hospital time again and I will be asking God to guide me in my efforts to bring some hope into the lives of patients there.

Good-night and God bless,

Friday 8/20/10 - "SANCTUARY" - FFF55

FLASH FICTION FRIDAY 55

"SANCTUARY"

She was searching for "sanctuary", silence, serenity.

After weeks she arrived at the seacoast driving the winding roads along the ocean cliffs.

It was late. She was tired, but felt the urge to stop.

Walking a narrow dirt path she suddenly saw silhouetted against the vanishing day, her "sanctuary".

The lighthouse was vacant, unlocked, hers.

Thursday 8/19/10 - "PASS ME THE BRUSH" - Theme Thursday (Brush)

THEME THURSDAY
(Brush)

"PASS ME THE BRUSH"

Pass me the brush that I may - - -

delicately brush with lightest touch
the pale pink blush upon your exquisite cheek

I will watch you descend the stairs
to meet your first prom date

And love will fill this space

_____________________________
Pass me the brush that I may - - -
with inspired fingers brush the liquid
color upon this canvas blank

I will watch God's presence
reveal itself with each choice of stroke I make

And love will fill this space

_____________________________
Pass me the brush that I may - - -
caress my precious possessions
with its featherlight touch

I will watch surfaces rise and shine
radiate their inner beauty bright

And love will fill this space

_____________________________
Pass me the brush that I may - - -
lay it gently in the center of this cloth
that I may capture its grace in a picture snapped

I will watch this graceful scene fill my screen

And love will fill my blog

Tuesday 8/17/10 - "BLANK MIND"

"BLANK MIND"

What can I say about this ugly joint
That's the predicament I find I'm in
Writing a story or poem is the point
I've no inspiration with which to begin

Oh how I want to write a Magpie Tale
Like all you creative bloggers do
But my mind is blank without detail
With this little rhyme you'll have to make-do

Monday 8/16/10 - "BUSY"

"BUSY"

Today (Sunday) began with an Al-Anon meeting at 11:00 followed by meetings with two Al-Anon sponsees, first a short visit with one followed by a longer meeting with the other to begin working on Step 4 using "Paths to Recovery". By the time I got home daughter and hubby who were both gone this morning were back. Mr. Steve and I went for a quick coffee at one of our favorite spots, Starbucks. It was a farewell coffee since hubby is leaving tomorrow on a scooter trip.

This evening I spent time with daughter watching a movie. She suffers constantly with sinus infections and it was good to just sit and relax. People with sinus trouble seem to be particularly affected adversely in this part of the country. I also had conversations with two of my other sponsees during the night. It has been a busy day.

Daughter is preparing to start a new job tomorrow. She has been out of work for about 3 months and the company who let her go three months ago has rehired her to do do marketing for them. I am preparing to start back at my volunteer job at the hospital doing pastoral care after being on sabbatical for the summer. I will be praying for guidance. Being off three months means I have fallen out of the routine, but I know I will return to the pattern quickly.

Please pray for me, my daughter and my husband as we move into our separate activities and in different directions tomorrow.

Heard at a meeting:

Don't tell God how big your mountains are, tell your mountains how big your God is.
